Area Description:
Alton is everyone's idea of a typical Hampshire market town with Medieval, Georgian and Victorian shops, some timber framed, occupied by local and multiple traders.
Alton is often described as the first "country town" outside London, due to the thousands of acres of beautiful Hampshire countryside that surround it. The facilities are excellent and include some of the highest ranking schools in the country together with good recreational and sporting facilities.
Communications:
Alton main line station has regular services to Waterloo, reached in about an hour.
For the car driver there are access points to the M3 (Junctions 5 and 6) about 15 minutes drive to the north at Basingstoke and Hook. Alton sits astride the crossroads of the A31, A32 and A339 and has dual carriageway access to Guildford and hence by the A3 to central London, and to Southampton and into Dorset by the M27. The South Coast is about 45 minutes whilst Heathrow and Gatwick are about an hour.
