Viewing This weekend ? - Major Road Works

From the Highways Agency Website - Over the weekends of October
1st-4th and October 8th-11th October between 10.00pm Friday and
5.00am Monday, the Highways Agency plan to close the
existing A3 around the Punchbowl - "enable us to
clear trees alongside the existing A3 in preparation for returning
the road to nature once the new A3 is open. We need to to the work
at this time as this is the last winter period outside the bird
nesting season (when such work is very difficult) before the tunnel
opens to traffic. Diversion for long distance A3 traffic will be
via the A31 and A325 between Guildford and Longmoor. Local A3
traffic for Hindhead would use the A31 and A287.
We are aware that Station Hill, Farmham on the local diversion
route is closed. The closure is to allow the renewal of gas mains.
Surrey County Council did their best to get the gas network
operator to retime their works for the school holidays next summer.
However, Southern Gas Networks considered the work could not wait
on safety grounds and was needed to ensure the gas supply to south
Farnham over the winter. We are in discussion with Surrey County
Council to ensure the diversions around this closure are clear.
We cannot wait until Station Hill has re-opened because, that
will push us into the winter months when work would be more
difficult due to restricted daylight and adverse weather
conditions. Our planning for this event was considerably advanced
before Station Hill closure over these weekends was confirmed."
