How to make your rental property feel like home

Whether its adding personal touches to your living room, or filling your home with with incense sticks, we’ve shortlisted our top five tips on making your rental property feel like home.

1. Soft furnishings

Throws, cushions and rugs can all add a little something to your home and can make a space feel welcoming and cosy. What better feeling is there than walking bare foot over your shag-pile rug and snuggling up on your sofa with a throw and good book!

2. Scents

Familiar smells are extremely evocative and are a great way of making your surroundings feel more homely. What better way to make a property feel like home than having it smell like home?

3. Indoor plants

Plants can be an inexpensive way of brightening any room. An evergreen looks good all year round and if you’re not very good at watering them, how about a cactus?

4. Lighting

Have you ever walked into a room and felt happy, comfortable and at ease? This is all down to the lighting. A simple side lamp or a statement lampshade can change the ambience of any room, or shall we say ‘set the mood’?

“Having been a tenant for the past five years, the key to making bricks and mortar feel like home, is by filling it with personal belongings” Jennifer Maunders of Keats Letting.

5. Photographs

We’ve already established filling your new property with familiar items can make it feel most homely, and we feel the most important items are photographs. get some of your friends and family and fill your home with memories!
