Rental Market Review

According to the latest figures the average rent in the UK is now £940 per month, up 3.8 per cent on this time last year. Excluding London, the typical rent in the UK is now £782 which is a 3.2 per cent increase on last year.

These figures come from HomeLet, a tenant referencing firm which also carries out a monthly market review of the rental sector.

Looking at the local rental market more closely Rita Tinney, Group Sales and Lettings Director for Keats Estate Agents commented “The baseline comparable figures need to be viewed with historic content.

“In Haslemere, Liphook and the surrounding villages rents dipped in the second half of 2017 and continued to decline in 2018 particularly with respect to two-bedroom apartments and houses which form the bulk of the investment stock in the Private Rental Sector.

“They have tripped up very slightly this year but are still not to the same level as 2016 into 2017. They will however most likely start to climb as the Tenant Fee Ban approaches and landlords attempt to recover their additional costs through increased rents.”
