Gas Safety – It’s A Landlords Responsibility

The Residential Landlords Association and Gas Safe Register have formed a partnership to raise awareness of gas safety in the private rental sector. Together they will promote the importance of using a Gas Safe registered engineer.

Keats are welcoming the move and Director Rita Tinney said: “Even though it is 23 years since the gas safety legislation came into force, Keats Letting still encounters landlords who are unaware of the regulations. Some believe they only need to renew the checks at the start of each tenancy while others argue that gas safety is a tenants’ responsibility!

“At Keats Letting we believe that the regulations currently in place need to be strengthened and that a landlords responsibility to ensure their tenants safety should include a mandatory annual boiler service and that the smoke and carbon monoxide legislation should be widened making it a compulsory requirement to fit CO alarms to all properties with a gas supply.

"Landlords can check the Gas Safe Register which is the official list of gas engineers who are qualified to work safely and legally on gas appliances. By law, anyone who comes to fix, fit or service gas appliances, pipework and flues must be on the register.”
